Car was located in Trinidad Colorado, purchased in May of 2005 on Ebay for $900.00, and consisted of an old original rusted steel body with doors, trunk lid, and other miscellaneous body parts. The main body was in pretty good shape, but the other items were pretty rough. It also came with a partial frame that was discarded. All in all, it was a rather large challenge to picture what we ended up with when all was said and done.
The first thing done to the body was a complete sandblasting down to bare metal to see what we had to work with. Surprisingly, it had very little cancer and was very solid. The doors were in bad shape requiring new outer skins, the trunk lid was twisted real bad which took a miracle to get straight. The rear fenders were discarded and replaced with extra wide fiberglass fenders to accommodate the 15? wide rear tires.
During the build, many modifications were done including a 5 inch chop, flat firewall welded in, custom splash aprons, and fitting a custom built frame with roll cage. Frame was powdercoated and chrome front and rear end installed. All glass was replaced and a new upholstered custom semi-hardtop fitted. The car was painted with House of Kolor ?Passion Pearl? along with a dusting of additional misc. pearls. A blown 540 Chevy big block backed with a Richmond 5 speed was built and installed, and a custom interior fabricated.
The original build, started in June of 05 and took about 9 months as we didn?t want the project to string out for years. In April of 06, it was ready for it?s first car show. It was very successful in 2006 winning many trophies and awards.
It was decided that the winter of 2006-07 would be spent performing a complete repaint and adding things such as graphics, more pearls, and additional chrome, along with swapping the Weiand blower and Demon carbs on the hefty 540 for a billet blower from The Blower Shop and an Enderle birdcatcher with belt driven pump calibrated for alcohol.
The car is completely street legal (with mufflers on!) and is a total blast to drive and cruise around in. The car has never seen the drag strip as it won?t pass tech, but all we have to say is this car totally redefines the term ?bat out of hell?, and ?bad assed? doesn?t even come close to describing the 1100+ horses!!!
